What is the meaning of "Figures."? - Question about English (US)
Definition of Figures. This is a very common expression. It is short for "It figures." In my opinion it is another way to say "that is to be expected." "He wore the red shirt." "(It) figures. Red is his favorite color." "My dad wants to talk to my teachers." "(It) figures. Your grades are low." Sometimes it can have a more mean tone, so be careful: "She is happy she won the match."

"Figures". What is that word supposed to mean in this case?
Figures is a shortened version of "That figures" which is something that you say when something is as you expected. For me, there's a nuance of the new information completing an expectation for the speaker i.e. Simon was wondering about Fabian's behaviour, and when he finds that Fabian is a teacher - Fabian's behaviour makes sense to Simon.

I can understand "I figured" o "figured", but why figures?
I figured is like saying "i knew that." Or "i guessed" Figures is more a sarcastic way of saying "Of course they would do that." It is based off of what you know or think of the person, company etc in question, and you hear something else bad about them that fits with that kind of persona.
