python - operator.itemgetter or lambda - Stack Overflow

Leaving aside the speed issue, which is often based on where you make the itemgetter or lambda function, I personally find that itemgetter is really nice for getting multiple items at once: for example, itemgetter(0, 4, 3, 9, 19, 20) will create a function that returns a tuple of the items at the specified indices of the listlike object passed to it.

attrgetter and itemgetter were added because they are useful in many common cases: in map(), filter(), list.sort(), some itertools functions (and later in min(), max(), the heapq module). You can use a lambda instead, but these helpers were presumably faster and, for some people, more clear.. What are the use cases for your functions and how common are they?
