On the women’s side, there’s a stark contrast between the usage of the platform stance vs. the pinpoint stance. Only one of the current top 20 players are using the platform stance. I haven’t talked with the coaches for any of these players, but I assume this is a direct result of them looking to generate more power on their serve. Platform

BetaThe platform stance is generally considered a slightly better choice if you want to serve and volley as you can move into the court with more momentum after you’ve served. The platform stance tends to result in more of a horizontal action moving into the court more, where as the pinpoint stance is more of a vertical upwards motion pushing off both legs.

BetaUsed to be pinpoint but transitioned to platform for about two years now. With pinpoint I got a little more pace on my serve but it was very inconsistent. Platform keeps your base stationary which I've found has improved my ball placement and consistency drastically. It wasn't an easy switch but do what works for you.

BetaAfter hitting about 5 Pinpoint serves it became immediately apparent that he could produce the same heavy serve but his accuracy and consistency immediately went up a level. Suffice to say, three years later, and he has never hit another Platform serve except for a lark.

BetaA lefty serve was my biggest weapon. I could hit it pretty well with either stance. At times, I would hit my 1st serve PP but then go with platform for my 2nd serve I also developed a pretty decent righty platform serve. But I never felt all that stable / comfortable with a PP stance with my right-handed serve.
