regex - How do I get python's "in" operator to only yield true word ...
Use a regular expression, with the \b word boundary operator around the pattern. You'll never get those exact code examples to work like that with ordinary strings, because that's not how in works on strings. You'll have to use something else besides plain strings, or something else besides in. You can use regex instead:

Regular Expressions: Regexes in Python (Part 1) – Real Python
There are at least a couple ways to do this. You could use the in operator: If you want to know not only whether '123' exists in s but also where it exists, then you can use .find() or .index(). Each of these returns the character position within s where the substring resides:

Python RegEx - W3Schools
RegEx can be used to check if a string contains the specified search pattern. Python has a built-in package called re, which can be used to work with Regular Expressions. Import the re module: When you have imported the re module, you can start using regular expressions: Search the string to see if it starts with "The" and ends with "Spain":

Pattern matching in Python with Regex - GeeksforGeeks
In this article, we will see how pattern matching in Python works with Regex. Regular expressions, also called regex, are descriptions of a pattern of text. It can detect the presence or absence of a text by matching it with a particular pattern and also can split a pattern into one or more sub-patterns.

String Comparison in Python (Exact/Partial Match, etc.) - nkmk note
To check for partial matches, use the in operator, which determines if one string contains another string. x in y returns True if x is contained in y (i.e., x is a substring of y), and False if it is not. If the characters of x appear in y but not consecutively, False is returned.

Python RegEx - GeeksforGeeks
How to Use RegEx in Python? You can use RegEx in Python after importing re module. This Python code uses regular expressions to search for the word "portal" in the given string and then prints the start and end indices of the matched word within the string. Note: Here r character (r’portal’) stands for raw, not regex.
