The transitive "to lead" means "to cause SOMEONE (the direct object is a person) to do something" and follows the same structure "verb+someone+infinitive" as many other verbs, e.g. "he forced me to go," "she encouraged me to apply," or even "he made me do it" (this one with the short infinitive).

Hi everybody, I have a question regarding the use of lead to when it has a verb after it. Do you have to use the infinitive or the -ing form? That problem will lead us to spend/spending more money. That problem will lead to spend/spending more money. which one is correct? Thank you in advance.

Io lavoro in una banca, e ogni giorno mi vengono assegnati/e dei/delle lead. A volte un mio collega maltese mi chiede di dargliene uno/una. Siccome ne io ne lui è madrelingua italiano, oggi, 10 minuti fa mi è capitato questo: il mio collega (maschio) mi ha chiesto (e anche io sono maschio): "me la dai?" - intendendo un/una lead.
