Database-specific operators and fields - Systematic Reviews, Scoping ...
Boolean operators. Boolean operators work in many but not all databases, and not all operators may be available; Some databases will have a different syntax to enter an operator, for example in Scopus, NOT is entered as AND NOT; Refer to the database help files to find out if and how Boolean operators are supported

Effectively Using Library Databases: III - Boolean Operators
Boolean operators used by keyword databases for research are: AND; OR; NOT; When used in a single search bar, these operators are to be placed between keywords to generate unique results. The operators must be in ALL CAPS so the database recognizes them as operators, and not as part of your general search phrase.

Information Literacy & Library Research: Keywords and Boolean Logic - SUU
The database uses a series of operators, also known as Boolean operators for searching: AND, OR, and NOT. Boolean operators are important because they combine your search words together to either narrow or broaden your results, helping you find what you are looking for. Example: information literacy (title) AND Armstrong (author) AND 2018 (year)

Build your search (Boolean Operators and Modifiers) - Writing ...
Some databases allow you to enter search terms on separate lines (e.g., enter a keyword the top line and researcher or activist's last name below, so as to articulate your search request) Using Boolean Operators (AND, OR, NOT) and Boolean Modifiers (quotation marks, asterisk, parentheses) allows you to widen or narrow the search for your keywords and target your research topic:

Boolean Operators - Research Skills Tutorials - SUNY Empire
Boolean Operators Explained. Now let's go into a little more detail about each operator. "Quotation Marks" Quotation marks tell the database to take the phrase as a whole, and search for the words together, and in order. Example: Searching wild geese: Without quotation marks, the database finds the word wild and the word geese separately.

LibGuides: Research Skills Tutorial: Boolean Operators
While databases cannot understand natural language, database searches can be made very precise using Boolean operators. Boolean operators tell databases exactly how you want your search terms combined for the optimal results. There are only five Boolean operators and all library databases understand them.

LibGuides: Library Research Tips: Boolean Operators
B oolean Operators are words that connect keywords (search terms) together to broaden or narrow the results retrieved. In library research they are often used with the library's research databases or the library catalog. The three Boolean operators are AND, OR, and NOT.. AND narrows your search results by limiting your results to those that contain both words connected with AND.

Boolean Operators - EdD Executive Leadership - Le Moyne
What are Boolean Operators. Boolean operators are the words "AND", "OR" and "NOT". When used in library databases (typed between your keywords) they can make your search more precise. AND narrows a search by telling the database that ALL terms used must be found in order for it to appear in your results list.
